Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk

It hit their cult following hard when Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk unexpectedly split at the end of 2013. They had just released their most emotionally devastating LP, Think Tone, and their live chemistry was sharper than ever. For those who saw the road dogs during their pretty daunting tour schedule during the 2010s, you caught the band in rare form— much like AnCo, their live show was a separate, freer, noisier entity, even while they were in the middle of crafting their best actual songs.

Luckily, a new chapter has started for the band. After parting ways with Luke Namee, they recently reunited with founding member Josh Riepe to start work on new material. “Zebra Boy” is the first single from Kill The Fuzz, a forthcoming mini-album for Fire Talk Records (who put out Think Tone and Skeletor & Me). It’s an immediate burst, both desperate and lighthearted, that hearkens to the mysterious entrances of some of their best “pop” songs past (“Let’s Listen to Souvlaki and Make Out”, “Jeremy Irons Couples Skate”, the many beautiful moments that seem to spontaneously erupt from their more expansive jams).

- Matt Sullivan / Ad Hoc

Mega Bog

It’s impossible to define Mega Bog; built mainly on one-off collaborations with other musicians, its lineup changes show-in, show-out. But the one constant is Erin Birgy: Mega Bog is her brainchild. The Seattle-based singer-songwriter hones her natural state for much of her music, singing of skinny-dipping, adventuring, loving others and herself. Her pensive reverbed whispers create a dreamy landscape that listeners have difficulty escaping. In it, they find tranquility.

- Benjamin LIndsay / Interview Magazine

Julie Byrne

Julie Byrne doesn’t sing her ice-crusted songs so much as murmur them beneath her breath. And “finger-picking,” while accurate, feels far too percussive a word for her guitar playing; it’s more like she brushes the strings with her fingertips, like wisps of hair obscuring her vision. Live clips show Byrne performing to reverent groups of three or four in cafes, where she barely rises above the sound of milk steamers and muffled coughing. Her album, Rooms With Walls & Windows, feels like a secret she’s keeping from you, even when it is safely in your headphones.

- Jayson Greene / Pitchfork

Leisure

Following some time traveling the U.S. away from his home base in Portland, Oregon, Jon Jurow returned to begin tracking demos for the basic structure of what would become there debut “Gone Again” EP. Upon returning home to Portland, he recruited bass player Alex Geddes (The Woolen Men),drummer John Rau (Royal Baths) and Baltimore native Kevin Muhitch to expand on these elements in a live environment. After a few shows and glowing local press Leisure entered the studio with engineer Mike Erwin to track 9 tracks in two days. Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk (The Clean, Elliot Smith, Grouper, Eat Skull, James Ferraro) with the exception of tracks 1 & 8 engineered by Eric Dante Sabitino and mastered in Brooklyn by Justin Frye of Gary War / PC Worship. Recorded live with mostly first takes this record is there to preserve this moment in time,a series of vignettes here and gone. Now based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. New material and NYC live dates TBA. NYC live band with featuring backing from Gryphon Graham (ex DIIV / Truthers) and Leif Anders (Week Of Wonders / Orca Team / Semi Femme) Full length LP coming fall 2015
